Okay, so after a lot of thought and a lot of people asking if I run workshops I am looking into running them again.
So now I just need your help, to gauge interest and for which states etc to travel and bring along some items to show you how to use, pose, light, style etc.
I will need Hosts that have a studio and can take up to 7 max is 8 people to keep the workshop more intimate and allow everyone a chance to take photos for their portfolio’s. Studio lighting, ideally a nice big soft box with low power such as the elinchrom Rx1 with large octagon soft box, and/or nice natural light. Would be an advantage to be in a city or close to Brisbane or Gold Coast, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Hobart, Canberra, and if enough interest Darwin. The host would not have to pay for the workshop however would just need to supply the use of the studio, drinks, snacks and lunch for everyone, (these can be simple bottles of water and easy to eat snacks such as sandwiches) in return for attending the workshop and getting all the benefits from it.
What would you learn, here is a list of things that you would learn
- Safety for both Newborns and Maternity images, it is essential that to use safe posing and environment for both at all times
- Posing, wrapping and styling.
- Lighting.
- Post Production and workflow
- Marketing and business, including CRM and insurance etc.
Why choose me to help you grow? That is always a good question to ask anyone that will teach you, I am a registered Nurse and Midwife so safety for both Mum and Baby as well as family members is of the utmost importance. I have been in business for 7 going on 8 years, I am a fully accredited member of the AIPP, having gained my Associates last year after becoming a finalist for the NSW newborn Category for the state AIPP awards and have worked very hard to get to wear I am, I am now ready to share some of my knowledge with you. We can do a one day work shop which would include one newborn in the morning with a prop pose and a beanbag simple pose including why choose that prop, if time allows we can do a family pose, including talking about styling, wrapping, lighting, then have a small morning tea break, then have a maternity model with two poses including material tossing and later how to composite this all together and simple go to poses. We will talk about how to tell if baby is unwell with things such as jaundice and any other things that could impact posing such as clicky hips, fractures of baby’s bones from birth trauma, these things will impact how you pose and Baby’s safety must always come first so that he/she is posed in a way to allow them to be comfortable and have a clear airway etc. And how to pose Mum when pregnant to reduce the risk of injury to her, remember Mum is growing a baby and a fall of any kind can impact the baby’s and mothers well being as well as questions to ask Mum to ensure she is safe during her session. Then Lunch, the after lunch we can go through some business things including why use a crm, insurance, policy’s and procedure for your studio, as well as workflow and editing, then questions will be aloud, you would be welcome of course to ask questions during any shoot as well. The workshop would run from around 830am with dicussions before newborn model arrives at 9am, and finish around 530pm, if you would like we can run later and include an outdoor maternity mini session to go through posing, styling, lighting etc. as well, including this we would finish around 7pm.

And learn how to tell a story, listen to your clients, they will not buy images you want, they will only buy what they want, create questionnaires to allow them to have control of their images and choose what they want, it isn’t about creating images we want, you need to listen to your client, remember we work for them not the other way around, and give them an experience they will walk away with feeling good that they chose you to capture their moments.
